Claude Monet's family collection at Christie's

Christie’s is hosting an exhibition titled “Dear Claude Monet” from November 4, 2017 that will run through November 13, 2017. The exhibition is part of a world tour followed by an auction scheduled in Hong Kong later in the month.Claude Monet is one of the foremost modernist painters who has inspired generations of artists but this particular exhibition delves into his achievement as a collector. It will not only be featuring his own paintings but also the works of artists like Édouard Manet, Eugene Boudin, Auguste Rodin, and Paul Signac whom he admired.This particular collection was acquired and maintained by Rolande Verneiges – an unrecognized yet protected daughter of Monet’s son, Michel. Her descendants decided to auction the collection after her death in 2008. The earliest works on canvas including sketches, pastels and few of Monet’s initial series work that will be a part of the tour and exhibition showing his aesthetic development as an artist. But the major attraction of the auction in Hong Kong will be the works of Japanese artists who significantly inspired him.
