Auction Preview: Sotheby’s To Live With Art: Property from the Jerome and Ellen Stern Collection, New York, March 5

The auction will offer an array of artworks from the Jerome & Ellen Stern Collection. Jerome and Ellen Stern epitomized the phrase “to live with art” —by the late 1990s, their homes in New York werefilled by acquisitions, and they commissioned the sculptor and their friend Serge Spitzer to create a 7,500-square-foot building on their compound in the Hamptonsto hold their collection of photography and sculpture. They called it the “ArtBarn.” The collection grew during 60 years of acquisitions from auctions, artists and galleries, includingmore than250 lots of Modern, Surrealist, Contemporary, Israeli and African Art, and 20th-century design. The sale will be the concluding one dedicated to this collection by Sotheby’s and will offer more than 150 lots of artworks, mostly by young artists across the world.
