Christie’s has announced the auction of a rare painting by Vincent van Gogh titled “Vue de l’asile et de la Chapelle de Saint-Rémy” as part of their Impressionist and Modern sale. The painting was once owned by the Hollywood superstar Elizabeth Taylor. [Hyperbeas]Elizabeth Taylor had been pictured with “Vue de l’asile” in her living room as the painting was hung in Elizabeth Taylor’s living room in the Bel Air home in California for over 50 years until her death. Her art dealer father Francis Taylor had purchased the painting on behalf of Liz Taylor at an auction in 1963 for £92,000.The painting was last auctioned, also at Christie’s, in 2012 and raised £10.1 million, including buyer's premium. It was the most expensive Vincent van Gogh landscape. This year, the painting is expected to be sold at over $35 million at the sale. The record price for a Van Gogh painting sold at Christie’s so far rests at $82.5 million USD.
