Christie’s has announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Steven P. Murphy, will be stepping down at the end of the year. He will be replaced by Patricia Barbizet who will also continue in her role as Chairman of Christie’s.The announcement comes less than two weeks after Sotheby’s announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer, William F. Ruprecht, who will continue in the role until he Board of Directors finds a replacement.Steven Murphy said that Christie’s has successfully concluded an ambitious three year plan, adding that the company is in the strongest leadership position in its history.“I have loved everything about working with the team here at Christie’s and am extremely proud of what we have collectively achieved,” said Mr Murphy.In a statement, Patricia Barbizet commented that during the period of Mr Murphy’s tenure, Christie’s had ventured into new markets in China and India and positioned itself as the forefront of the digital transformation of the art market.“Having completed this core work, the company is positioned for its next phase of development and I look forward to leading the global team into a new chapter of innovation and excellence as we take Christie’s to the next level,” said Ms BarbizetFollow @UK_ARTINFO
