The two paintings are part of a pictorial cycle consisting of four refined paintings published by Egidio Martini in a volume on Venetian painting (E. Martini, 1991, n.7) as works by the Venetian painter Francesco Fontebasso; they depict four events drawn from the Old Testament. There are many analogies that bring this painting closer to the version of the same subject that was part of a very demanding pictorial cycle with stories from the Old and New Testaments. Estimate: EUR 50,000 - 70,000 ($ 58,979 - $ 94,440)- Giovanni Serodine (Ascona 1600 - Rome 1630): Oil on canvas, 63x48 cm. This painting goes to increase our knowledge about a painter whose catalog is not yet settled, despite the fact that its author has long recognized a central role in the history of Italian painting of the early seventeenth century, and in particular of the more sincerely Caravaggesque. Silhouetted artist, like many masters of the Lombard lakes area who arrived in Rome between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in search of engagements, Serodine follows the emigration routes to the Urbe undertaken by their family members: the father Cristoforo, a wine merchant and 'host', he has been rooted there since the end of the sixteenth century. Estimate: EUR 30.000 - 40.000 ($ 35,387 - $ 47,183)For details, visit: https://www.cambiaste.comClick on the slideshow for the highlights of the sale.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/Founder: Louise Blouin
