A Mughal-e-Azam Lobby Card Is The Top Draw At Story LTD Auction Today

A lobby card of one of the most iconic films of Hindi cinema (when it was not known as Bollywood) – Mughal-e-Azam (1960) is the leading lot at the Story LTD’s online sale titled, “Best of Indian Cinema – Bollywood Memorabilia Auction” that will get underway this evening. It is expected to fetch Rs 60,000 – Rs 80,000 ($985-$1315).The two-day auction features 90 lots encapsulating the Indian film industry through posters, lobby cards, LP records, photographs of film stars and autographed pictures of film celebrities among others.A set of 23 reprinted photograph stills from the same film, featuring lead cast of Dilip Kumar, Madhubala and Prithviraj Kapoor, is also expected to be bid at the same price range.A set of two original signed photographs of Pran (from 1970s), one of the most accomplished actors of Indian cinema who essayed a variety of roles – from villainous to that of the downtrodden common man, is the next most expensive lot on offer. It is estimated to go for Rs 40,000 – Rs 60,000 ($660-$985).Another lot, comprising two lobby cards of Raj Kapoor’s film “Sangam” (1964) and a film still mounted on a lobby, is also of top interest. It is expected to fetch 50,000 – Rs 60,000 ($820 - $985).Two photographs of Dev Anand, one each from his films “Darling Darling” (1977) and “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” (1971) are expected to go for Rs 30,000 – Rs 40,000 ($495-$660).Two stills from Satyajit Ray’s classic “Joy Baba Falunath” (1979) are estimated to get Rs 20,000 – Rs 30,000 ($330-$495). A photograph still from Ray’s “Charulata” (1964) along with a promotional brochure for the film is expected to be bid for Rs 15,000 – Rs 20,000 ($250-$330). Another set, comprising a promotional brochure each from three of Satyajit Ray’s films – “Joy Baba Felunath” (1979), “Mahanagar” (1963) and “Nayak” (1966) – is estimated at Rs 20,000 – Rs 25,000 ($330-$410).The starting bid for each lot in this no reserve auction is Rs 1,525 ($25).For details, visit www.storyltd.comFollow @ARTINFOIndia
