Christie’s and ArtStack have announced that eight artworks selected from the first crowd-sourced auction initiative will be offered in the First Open/LDN auction on March 26 at Christie’s South Kensington. The groundbreaking initiative is a joint venture between auction house Christie’s and the world’s first art social media platform, ArtStack.From January 20 to February 2 artists were given the opportunity to submit their work to an online competition on ArtStack where the public could vote for their favourite works by “stacking.” A high-profile panel of art world, fashion, and media figures then selected eight works from a shortlist of the most “stacked.”According to Christie’s, nearly 3,000 artists from more than 100 countries submitted over 11,000 works for inclusion in FIRST OPEN/LDN sale. The artists who created these artworks are appearing at auction for the first time.Bianca Chu, Head of First Open/LDN, said: “The response to the competition on ArtStack – from both artists and the public – was fantastic and we are excited to introduce the final eight artists to Christie’s global audience for the first time.“The inclusion of these works form part of another strong First Open/LDN auction, following the successful inaugural London sale.
