Bonhams Hong Kong Fine Chinese Paintings Spring Sale 2015 fetched over HK$700 million on May 31.The top lot from the sale was “Album of Landscapes” by the 17th century Chinese painter Wang Hui (1632-1717), which sold for HK$35,960,000, more than three times the high estimate of HK$10,000,000. It was sold over the phone to the Shanghai-based collector and Long Museum founder Liu Yiqian.Dating from the spring of 1698, the Wang Hui album of ten double leaves comes from the collection of Mark S. Pratt, and comes five years after his twelve-scroll masterpiece “Nanxun Tu” was completed, making the album a coveted piece from his mature period. Also performing well from the Pratt Collection were two paintings by Zhang Daqian, “Lotus” and “Dwelling in the Mountains,” which fetched HK$2,200,000 and HK$1,960,000 respectively, both well above their high estimates.Steven Zuo, Director of Chinese Paintings, Bonhams Hong Kong, said, "We are very pleased with the results of today's auction. Today's auction has demonstrated the strength of the demand for top-quality work. Going forward, we will continue to leverage our unrivalled global network to source exceptional works from important private collections in America, Europe and Asia. We look forward to our next sale in November.”Follow @ARTINFOHongKong
