On June 24 in Paris, an ivory pocket or belt mirror, believed to have been the property of Leonardo da Vinci, will hit the auction block at the French auction house Kapandji Morhange. Embedded in an ivory frame, the oval mirror is decorated with text engraved on silver, rosettes, and scrolls, and on the reverse side, the mirror is dated 16th century Italy. Leonardo da Vinci wrote from right to left which required a mirror to read his manuscripts; while only a limited number of people knew how to read in Italy during 16th century, this method proved to be a useful one for individuals to encode texts. Expected to spark interest amongst buyers, the piece is on offer with an estimate tagged at €60,000 ($68,000) to €120,000 ($136,000).
