As part of its international development strategy, France’s largest auction house Artcurial-Briest-Poulain-F.Tajan revealed plans to open an office in Germany this week, announcing German art market specialist Moritz von der Heydte as the new permanent representative. According to a statement issued by Artcurial, the office will open in Munich in the second half of 2015 and will be overseen by Martin Guesnet, who is in charge of Artcurial’s European development and who will support von der Heydte with his knowledge of the German market.“This is the first time that a French auction house will open its doors across the Rhine,” Francis Briest and François Tajan, co-chairmen of Artcurial, explained, “our arrival in Germany, a country of art collectors and enthusiasts, is a key stage in our international development.”Artcurial has been pursuing an ambitious international development strategy in recent years, opening offices in Brussels, Milan, and Vienna. In May, the auction house had also announced plans to expand its reach in Asia with an auction in Hong Kong scheduled to take place this October.
