Bonhams Sets New Record for Rodin’s “L'Eternel Printemps”

Bonhams has set an auction record for a second state casting of Auguste Rodin’s “L'Eternel Printemps,” one of the artist’s finest and most acclaimed works.The sculpture sold for £938,500 against an estimate of £500,000-700,000 during the Bonhams’ Impressionist and Modern Art sale on 4 February which made a total of £3,065,975.Bonhams Head of Impressionist and Modern Art, India Phillips, said: “This is a wonderful price for a very special piece. Rodin poured a huge amount of emotion into ‘L’Eternel Printemps’ and you can feel that in the raw physicality of the sculpture, making it one of his most enduring images.”The sale follows an overall auction record for the artist in GBP set by Sotheby’s during its February 3 Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale in London with a lifetime cast of “Iris” which sold for £11.6 million / $16.7 million against an estimate of £6,000,000 -8,000,000Bonhams also set a new auction record for Italian Futurist painter Mino Delle Sitte whose “Decollo” sold for £38,700. Other highlights included the sale of Alfred Sisley’s “Le Petit Bougival” for £434,500, Raoul Dufy’s “Le séchage des voiles” for £242,500, and Maurice Utrillo’s “Rue à Montmartre” for £194,500.
