French auction house Artcurial has achieved new auction records for nine artists during its February 14 Urban Art sale in Paris.New world auction records were set for Shuck2, Aroe, Noe Two, Speedy Graphito, Hopare, Masques, Bault, Mist, Toxic, and Shoof.Overall, the sale made €1,386,770 / $1,567,050 against an estimate of €1,087,400 / $1,228,762, with 82% of lots sold.The top price was achieved by American graffiti artist John “JonOne” Perello’s “Next to the high-ways signs” 2012, which sold for €47,700 / $53,901, nearly doubling its estimate.Another highlight was the sale of Speedy Graphito’s “Captain spray” 2012 for €37,700 / $42,601, the second highest price of the sale and a new auction record for the artist.A top price was also achieved for Noe Two’s “The lost world,” 2015 which set a new auction record for the artist of €36,400 / $41,132.Arnaud Oliveux, director of Artcurial’s Urban Art department, said: “This 10th session dedicated to urban art was a vibrant celebration of this movement which is today recognized internationally.“The historic graffiti as well as the contemporary scene is acclaimed. New records set tonight confirm that Artcurial is the market reference for urban art.”
