Cécile Bernard has taken up her new position as the Director General of Sotheby’s France. Starting September 1, she is working with Mario Tavella, Président Directeur Général of Sotheby’s France and Chairman of Sotheby’s Europe.Bernard spent two decades at Christie’s in London and Paris, starting as a painting specialist and becoming a department head. In a surprise move, she more recently moved to Drouot.Tavella said in an e-mailed statement that Bernard had “significant experience in the art market internationally” and would help the company develop its Paris office.Bernard said of her appointment that she could bring 25 years of expertise “in large French and international auction houses.” She has a Masters in Finance from ISC Paris and a degree in art history from the Sorbonne.
