Sotheby’s is exhibiting the contents of its 70-lot annual Irish Art sale at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin from September 1-4, prior to the London viewing from September 8-12 and the auction at Sotheby’s New Bond Street in London on September 13.This year’s sale features works by Sir William Orpen, Paul Henry, Gerard Dillon, Mary Swanzy, Colin Middleton, F.E. McWilliam, Rowan Gillespie, and Gottfried Helnwein. Further contemporary highlights include works by Elizabeth Magill, Melita Denaro, Eilís O’Connell, John Doherty, and Rita Duffy.Highlights of the sale include Sir John Lavery’s evocative portrait interior “Mary Borden and her Family at Bisham Abbey” (est: £150,000-250,000 / €179,000-298,000) and Sir John Lavery’s atmospheric “Tangier” 1919 (est: £80,000-120,000 / €95,500-143,000).Other notable works are Jack B. Yeats’ boldly expressive “Water Lilies” 1930 (est: £100,000-150,000 / €120,000-179,000), Sir William Orpen’s “The Fiddler” (est: £60,000-80,000 / €71,500-95,500, and Gerard Dillon’s impressive “Mending Nets, Aran” (est: £100,000-150,000 / €120,000-179,000).Paul Henry’s “The Road by the Lake” circa 1935-36 (est: £60,000-80,000 / €71,500-95,500) and Mary Swanzy “Cubist Landscape with Red Pagoda and Bridge” circa 1925-30 (est: £60,000-80,000 / €71,500-95,500) will also attract plenty of interest from collectors.The sale also includes six works from the Estate of George & Maura McClelland, whose McClelland Collection is testament to the determination, energy, and compassion of George and Maura in their support of Irish art and artists.Click the slideshow to see highlights from the sale
