Highlights of Christie’s 2015 Islamic Art Week London Sales

Auction house Christie’s is celebrating Islamic Art Week 2015 in London with a series of three sales at its two London salerooms from April 21-24.Featuring a fine selection of treasures from across the Islamic and Indian worlds, the three sales showcase the exquisite craftsmanship and diversity of works from the category.The week begins on April 21 with a sale of Oriental Rugs and Carpets at Christie’s King Street saleroom. One of the highlights of the sale is an important Mongol empire wool flatwoven carpet from the late 13th or first half 14th century (estimate: £500,000-700,000).Christie’s King Street saleroom will also host a sale of Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds on April 23. Highlights include an important astrolabe made in Iran in AH 1117/1705-06 AD (estimate: £150,000-250,000) and a striking celestial globe from Lahore, 1660 (estimate: £100,000-150,000)The week of sales will conclude on April 24 with a sale of Arts & Textiles of the Islamic & Indian Worlds at Christie’s South Kensington saleroom.
