Preview: Sotheby’s “Boundless” Sale, June 11, 2015

HONG KONG — Sotheby’s popular “Boundless: Contemporary Art” sale of genre-crossing modern and contemporary Western and Asian art and classic 20th century design returns for its fifth edition on June 11, with a public exhibition of the pieces on offer from June 5-10.Chinese masters are adequately represented by Zao Wou-Ki, T’ang Haywen, Chu Teh-Chun, and Chao Chung-Hsiang, offered alongside pieces by Sam Francis and Georges Mathieu, while works by Henri Michaux, a longtime friend of Zao, will highlight the cross-cultural links between certain of these artists. Design highlights include Roger Tallon’s spiral-shaped “Helicoid Staircase – M 400,” in addition to a selection of lamps by renowned designers like the Campana Brothers, Tom Dixon, Shigeru Uchida, and Marc Newson.Top lots include Andy Warhol’s acrylic and silkscreen ink on canvas “Sofu Teshigahara (two works)” (1974-5, estimate: HK$3-4 million/US$385,000-513,000), Keith Haring’s Japanese sumi ink on paper piece “Untitled” (1983, estimate: HK$1-1.5 million/US$128,000-192,000), and Zhan Wang’s stainless steel sculpture “Artificial Rock” (2006, estimate: HK$2-3 million/US$256,000-385,000).Follow @ARTINFOHongKong
