Sotheby’s Australia will offer one of the most significant paintings by John Brack still in private ownership during its August 25 Important Australian Art sale at the InterContinental Sydney.Titled “Junior Latin American” 1969, the painting is part of Brack’s highly acclaimed Ballroom Dancing series, and is unique in that it shows non-adult competitors, according to Sotheby’s Australia.First shown at Rudy Komon Art Gallery in April 1970, the Ballroom Dancing series contained three oil studies, seven works on paper, and twelve paintings, of which “Junior Latin American” was one of the largest.Sotheby’s Australia sold another work from the series, “The Old Time” 1969, in May 2007 for $3.36 million, setting a new world auction record for Brack and establishing a new world auction record at the time for a work by an Australian artist.“In 2007 Sotheby’s Australia achieved both an artist and Australian auction record with the sale of John Brack’s The Old Time 1969,” said Geoffrey Smith, Chairman of Sotheby’s Australia.“Offered for auction for the very first time, Junior Latin American is poised to generate enormous interest and excitement.”“Junior Latin American” will be offered with an estimate of $1,000,000-1,400,000.
