Beginning on November 27, the online auction house Auctionata will be taking bidders around the world in 11 days. Auctioning off 2,000 works of art from 20 different countries in regionally themed sales is an ambitious undertaking, to say the least. “The Art Journey” will feature 16 separate live-streamed online auctions to be held by the Berlin-based house — Germany’s largest in terms of staff and revenue — from November 27 through December 7. During that time, Auctionata will unveil a wide array of art, much of it important and rare, from Russia, Germany, France, China, the US, and Britain, among other countries. With pieces ranging from the 17th century to the 21st, international buyers will be able to explore the history of art — and the cultures of those countries — through the series.Prices will range from $500 all the way up to half a million. Auctionata’s co-founder Susanne Zacke designed it that way, to open up the event to a wider audience.“Certain styles of art require a certain education. But with 2,000 artworks, we thought, how can we structure that?” Zacke said. “The ‘Art Journey’ idea came up as a way to make it easier to enter this world.”Here are a few of many highlights:November 27 — From Russia With Love: Antiques and Miniatures Bidders will find some extraordinary examples of Russian decorative arts in this 115-lot offering, like a porcelain plate from the service of Tsar Nicholas and a so called ‘revolution plate’ from the 1920s. The sale also includes a Fabergé collection, including nephrite frames, a gold brooch, and several cigarette cases. (In of several instances of related consecutive auctions in the Art Journey series, this sale will be followed on the same day by “Art from Russia & Eastern Europe: 19th and 20th Century,” with 112 works by artists including Franz Roubaud and Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky.)December 1 — German Zeitgeist: Post-War ArtThis sale of 140 items presents artists and artistic styles that have emerged from and impacted post-War Germany.
