Sotheby's unveils two rare diamonds in New York ahead of an auction to be held in Hong Kong in October.
Weighing more than 118 carats, this magnificent oval white diamond is expected to fetch between $28 and $35 million U.S. dollars at auction. First discovered in deep mines in Southern Africa and chiseled from a huge 299 carat rough, the gem is graded as having flawless D color.
Quek Chin Yeow, deputy chairman of Sotheby's Asia, says: "It's the largest ever to be auctioned. The last one, it's twenty percent bigger than anything else that's been on the market for auction."
Also up for auction, the Premier Blue, the world's largest round fancy vivid blue diamond, weighing 7.59 carats. Blue diamonds are amongst the rarest in the world and this one could fetch as much as $19 million U.S. dollars.
The Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Auction will take place in Hong Kong October 7.
